WALKERS & STROLLERS – Tuesday 8th October reports and photos from Margaret, Joan & Colin

At first light the weather had not been promising with rain falling. But as the Walking Group arrived at The Stag public house in Maidwell to order their lunches, there was brightness in the sky and the rain had stopped. The sun appeared briefly as the group of 22 walkers led by Peter Martin striding ahead, joined a footpath climbing across a muddy field with sheep grazing. We climbed towards Maidwell Lodge Farm passing the waterfall then a further climb crossing the 500ft contour giving us spectacular views across the county. Our total height gain on the walk was about 350 feet over 4-miles, a gentle work-out. Apart from a few spots the rain had held off despite the dubious forecast as we returned to the Stag for a well-earned hot lunch. Thanks to Peter for a well-planned, enjoyable and sociable walk.                                         Colin Rowe

Joan Edney adds: Although the forecast was for heavy rain we had a lovely walk and managed to dodge the rain drops and had a lovely walk from Maidwell. The sheep were really interested in us! We could see across the fields to Brixworth Church.

A very small group of Strollers set off from The Stag in Maidwell on a day that threatened to be rather wet! We were quite late starting our walk as we stopped to enjoy a coffee beforehand as we usually do, our group not being quite so athletic as the main Walkers. We walked along an interesting lane passing some affluent farms and came to a beautiful area where a mini park area had been created with this weir in the centre. The walk, about 2 miles, was most enjoyable and luckily it was dry for the whole time.                            Margaret Griffiths
