Circular Walk from the Stag Maidwell

Our monthly ramble was well attended with 22 walkers and several strollers. It was a bright sunny day for January after the previous few days of really freezing temperatures. The icy patches had just started to melt, resulting in a little bit of slipping and sliding along the muddy bridleways.

Unfortunately one of our members’ boots decided to separate from their soles, however she was saved by an elastic band and a hair tie, our members are ever resourceful, she was able to carry on with the ramble.

I am still smiling every time I think of the very vocal mystery bird I was looking around the trees for as we crossed over a stream into a gated field. Only for one of the members to point out that it was actually the sound of the very squeaky gate, being opened and closed as we passed through, that I was trying to identify!

Having completed our 5 mile walk we enjoyed a really good lunch at The Stag at Maidwell, it was a very enjoyable day.

The two hour walk (between 4 and 5 miles) on 14th January was a round walk through fields starting and ending at The Stag, Maidwell . Very pleasant but it was very muddy in parts. We arrived at a tunnel but didn’t go through it as it was very dark then turned round and went back a different way through more fields.

The views were fab and the fresh air and company was exhilarating.
