A beautiful sunny morning for our visit to Braunston church and marina. The church is the third to be built on the site and has numerous interesting architectural and historical artefacts to view.
The village Timeline was particularly fascinating, reporting the early days of the canal, railways and industry of Braunston over hundreds of years. Next door to the church is the remnants of the village windmill which ceased milling after a workman was knocked off his ladder by one of the sails that caught a gust of wind. It is now a private house.
After our church visit the group went in various directions to find coffee and cake, the marina or just wander along the canal. Four of us found the Art Supplies shop – an Aladdin’s cave for anyone wanting to replicate some canal art! A very pleasant morning.
