Holdenby House

The Weekend Group enjoyed a visit to Holdenby House on Saturday 20th July. It was a beautiful day and we commenced with coffee and then started our tour of the gardens which included a kitchen Garden, Elizabethan Garden, the Tous Tous border, Silver Border and the King Charles Walk.

Lunch time arrived and we sampled sandwiches in the Stable Courtyard Cafe and then gathered on the lawn for a display from the Icarus Falconry Centre.

Returning to finish the gardens we came across the croquet lawn which included all the equipment and the instructions for play so a few of us picked up a mallet and play commenced. Modestly, I have to say that I won by a mile although half the instructions were missing so we may not have been playing exactly according to the rules. l also have to say that there were mutterings of “unfair advantage” and “not fair” from my opponents. Admittedly I had a smaller and lighter ball - but I still won!!!

It was a really good day, with lots of laughter and enjoyment. Well worth a visit.
