The 23rd January meeting saw 50 members arrive at Scaldwell Village Hall to hear a presentation by Graham Evans, Chair of the Northamptonshire Battlefield Society on “Northamptonshire’s Country Houses in the Civil War”.

Some of the more familiar houses were discussed, plus one or two others that were unknown to the audience as they are now in private hands but played significant parts on one side or another in the Civil War. Some of Graham’s stories were particularly amusing – even if they may not have been strictly historically true! Or at least, may have been embellished over the years.
