On Tuesday 12th November - although the morning dawned overcast and misty - the weather promised to be dry with brightness later, as 28 keen group members started to arrive at the Wharf Inn at Welford. At 10.00 the Wharf Inn opened up so orders for lunch could be placed. Peter Martin otherwise engaged was replaced by Rosemary Ward who led the walk, thanks go to Rosemary for stepping in.
The circular walk, just under 5 miles in length, was easy underfoot being mainly along the towpath of the Leicester arm of the Grand Union canal with only one “wonky” stile to negotiate. We completed the circuit along the Welford canal spur by midday returning to the Wharf Inn for the pre-booked lunches. A very enjoyable and sociable walk among u3a friends. Thanks to Keith Featley for providing the photographs.
